If you have low blood pressure (hypotension), taking Vilitra (vardenafil) may not be safe due to the way the medication works in the body. How Vilitra Affects Blood Pressure: Vilitra belongs to a class of drugs known as PDE5 inhibitors (phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors). These drugs work by relaxing the blood vessels and improving blood flow, particularly in the penis, to help treat erectile dysfunction (ED). However, in doing so, they also have a systemic vasodilatory effect—they can cause blood vessels throughout the body to widen (dilate), which lowers blood pressure. Why It's Problematic for People with Low Blood Pressure: Potential for an Unsafe Drop in Blood Pressure: If you already have low blood pressure, the additional vasodilation caused by Vilitra may cause your blood pressure to drop even further. This could result in symptoms like dizziness, Vilitra , fainting, or shock in extreme cases. The effect of this drop in blood pressure can be dangerous and potentially life-threatening. Interaction with Other Blood Pressure Medications: If you are also taking medications to treat low blood pressure (such as alpha-blockers or other antihypertensive medications), combining these drugs with Vilitra can have a synergistic effect, leading to an even more significant drop in blood pressure, which can be hazardous.
