When was the running invented, as a natural human activity, dates back to ancient times when early humans relied on running for survival, such as hunting or escaping danger. While the exact moment of its "invention" is impossible to pinpoint, running became formalized as a sport in ancient civilizations like Egypt and Greece. By 776 BC, running was featured as a key event in the first Olympic Games in Greece, with the "stadion," a short foot race, being one of the earliest competitions.
Today, running has evolved into a global sport enjoyed by millions. From sprints to marathons, it’s central to modern athletics. The Philippines is no exception, with a strong tradition in track and field, producing athletes who excel on both national and international stages.
